Magowan, Gowan, Gone!

Our beloved (and I use the term loosely) team President and onetime "savior" has made his exit from the franchise official today. I suppose this means he will throw himself a ticker-tape parade down King St. and when he is denied public money to help pay for it, he will take out a HUGE mortgage and force parade watchers to pay $54 for admission and sell $8 garlic fries.

I'm not holding out hope that President-elect Larry Baer will do anything differently than Magowan with the exception of beefing up the Kosher hot dog selection. As one who was raised Jewish, I relish the opportunity down a Hebrew National.

I dig the blog and as a fellow fan of an Orange and Black team (the Orioles) who was raised Jewish, I'm sure it's nice to see a change in the front office for a struggling franchise. What the heck has gone wrong with Barry Zito? And as a Giants fan what do you think about the Bonds departure?

there wasnt really a change in the front office...larry baer moved up from being assistant asshole to head asshole, and neukom moved from being another minority owner to being the face of the team.

neukom has been a fan of the giants since they moved west, but has no experience running a baseball franchise.

he was however, very good at helping microsoft destroy all their competition...so maybe we can reverse engineer the bosox.

the fact that baer was given a promotion does not fill me with hope...he is a bitter little man who chose to go after the only voice on knbr, that provided constant and valid criticism of the way the org has been run...the only voice that didnt throw softballs at guests like baer and sabean when they were on his show.

peter was most likely forced out as a result of the ped mess and the signing of zito

not that he cares much...he was getting paid 1 mil per year and looks to score big when he sells off about 50 percent of his current shares

its good to be rich

as for bonds...i think he is getting a raw deal from a corrupt justice dept

Thanks for the nice words, Michael. Bonds' leaving was overdue - he was here primarily for marketing and not for winning, which is a death knell for a franchise.

As for Zito, your guess is as good as mine, but I think a dropoff in velocity from a pitcher who never had great stuff to begin with (curve notwithstanding) combined with sloppy mechanics, poor coaching (with the Giants) and a disposition not suited for the pressure of the contract equals what we see today.

But I'm just a guy...

Keep reading and thanks again.
